TOTD Exorcism And Steve Vernon - Horror Writer Part 1

Hey folks. I was born and raised in the woods of Northern Ontario, but travelled to Nova Scotia to meet my mom at the age of 17. Since then I've hitchhiked from one end of the country to another. I've been writing horror fiction for about 20 years. You can find some of my stories in The Horror Show, Cemetery Dance, Karl Edward Wagner's Year's Best Horror, Red Scream, Dark Discoveries, Horror Garage and many other nifty magazines. If you're a horror fan try ordering my novella LONG HORN, BIG SHAGGY from Shocklines. What's it about? Back-from-the-dead mountainmen, time-traveling mad scientists, and zombified buffalo. You will never look at a severed head the same way again! Enough commercials. Let me tell you about myself. I make a living in Halifax as a professional palm and Tarot reader. I make jewelry that I sell at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. I work as an oral tradition storyteller in many different maritime schools. I used to be a fan of wrestling, but since I'm all grown up now, and instead I watch Survivor. I'm also a big fan of LOST and THE SOPRANOS. I enjoy spooky stories and campfires and long walks. I can't hip-hop for beans, although I am taking lessons. Big Poppa is in the house! Anybody interested in learning more about me can check out my website for sample stories, poetry, articles and reviews. Just click http://users.eastlink.ca/~stevevernon

TOTD War Of The Worlds And Author: Mark McLaughlin Part 1

Author Mark McLaughlin has this to say: Not only am I happy that PHANTASMAPEDIA has made it to the Final Ballot of the Bram Stoker Award for Poetry, but so is the Great Sewer Clam -- oh, how he is smiling! -- who wanted me to tell folks, "IN HONOR OF THIS OCCASION, I WILL REDUCE MY HUMAN BIPED CONSUMPTION BY FIFTY PERCENT!" Unfortunately, that means he will eat the same number of people as he always does -- but he'll only eat the top half of each person (the half with the tasty brain in it).

Any HWA person who'd like to read PHANTASMAPEDIA is welcome to email me at mcmonstrous @ mail.com (take out the spaces on either side of the @) and I'll send a PDF file your way. Thanks!

Dead Letter Press is reprinting PHANTASMAPEDIA in an unlettered edition (and therefore less expensive) limited to 100 copies. The publisher's website is www.deadletterpress.com.

So what IS Phantasmapedia, anyway?

Phantasmapedia is a chapbook collection of poems about 32 little-known creatures -- demons, entities, mutants, and pseudo-biological aberrations.

Even though you may not have heard of the 32 beings in this chapbook, there is a good chance one or more of them could be influencing your life. Are you having difficulty losing weight? You could be the victim of Adipossums, or maybe Glucozoth, Lord of Candy. Having memory problems? Brown Creepers could be to blame. Is your computer acting strangely? Internet Witches may have sent a special virus your way. Are you hopelessly insane or terminally ill? Perhaps you've crossed paths with the Yellow-Tailed Satanus or the Oncoloscarabaeus. Phantasmapedia also reveals the ultimate destiny of life on Earth, as well as a variety of other arcane secrets. This one-of-a-kind chapbook has been released as a signed, lettered limited edition.

About the Author: Mark McLaughlin's fiction, nonfiction and poetry have appeared in hundreds of magazines, anthologies, newspapers and websites. His books of short stories include Slime After Slime, Motivational Shrieker, Pickman's Motel, and a three-way collection with Shane Ryan Staley and Bright Knight entitled At The Foothills Of Frenzy. His poetry collections include Professor LaGungo's Exotic Artifacts & Assorted Mystic Collectibles, The Spiderweb Tree, and Men Are From Hell, Women Are From The Galaxy Of Death. He is the co-author, with Rain Graves and David Niall Wilson, of the poetry book The Gossamer Eye, which won a Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in Poetry. In 2008, Corrosion Press will release Monster Behind The Wheel, a horror/adventure novel written by Mark with collaborator Michael McCarty. You can find out more about Mark's work at www.myspace.com/monsterbook and http://www.geocities.com/mcmonstrous
